1. Who We Are
New Chapter ("we," "us," or "our") is a premium dating platform for mature adults aged 40 and over. We are the data controller responsible for your personal information collected through our website and application at newchapter.love.

2. Data We Collect
2.1 Profile Information
When you create an account, we collect:
- Full name, date of birth, and gender identity
- Location (country, city, and approximate distance preferences)
- Relationship goals, lifestyle preferences (children, smoking, drinking, religion)
- Personality type, hobbies, and interests
- Profile biography and photos (up to 6 profile images)
- Languages spoken
2.2 Account & Authentication Data
- Email address and encrypted password
- Account creation date and login timestamps
- Device information and IP address for security purposes
2.3 Photo Verification Data
If you choose to verify your identity (optional but encouraged), we collect a selfie photo. This image is compared to your profile photos using AI-assisted facial comparison technology. Verification selfies are used solely for this purpose and are not stored permanently after verification is complete.
2.4 Messages & Interactions
- Private messages exchanged with your matches
- Likes, dislikes, and match actions
- Reports submitted about other users
2.5 Subscription & Payment Data
We collect subscription tier and billing status. We do not store payment card details. All payment processing is handled securely by Stripe, Inc. We receive only transaction confirmation and subscription status from Stripe.
2.6 Usage Analytics
- Pages visited, features used, and time spent on the platform
- Search and filter preferences
- Login frequency and session data
3. How We Use Your Data
- Matching: Your profile data (age, location, goals, personality, hobbies) powers our matching algorithm to show you compatible members.
- Communication: To deliver your messages and match notifications within the platform.
- Safety & Moderation: To detect fake profiles, review reported content, and enforce Community Rules.
- Photo Verification: To verify that your profile photos match a live selfie, reducing fake profiles.
- Subscription Management: To process payments, manage your subscription tier, and unlock features.
- Service Improvement: Anonymised analytics help us improve matching quality and user experience.
- Communications: To send you service-related emails (password resets, subscription confirmations, security alerts). We do not send unsolicited marketing without your consent.
We process your data under the following legal bases (GDPR Article 6):
- Contract performance — to provide the dating service you signed up for
- Legitimate interests — safety, fraud prevention, and service improvement
- Consent — photo verification and optional marketing emails
- Legal obligation — where required by applicable law
4. Third-Party Services
We share limited data with trusted third parties only as necessary to operate the platform:
Stripe (Payment Processing)

OpenAI (Photo Verification)
When you submit a verification selfie, the image is sent to OpenAI's API for facial comparison. This data is processed under OpenAI's enterprise data processing terms and is not used to train AI models.
Cloud Infrastructure
Your profile photos and data are stored on secure cloud infrastructure (Neon, Render, Cloudflare R2). All data at rest is encrypted. Our servers are located in the European Union and United States.
Analytics
We use Polsia's internal analytics system to track aggregate platform usage. No personally identifiable information is shared with external analytics providers.
We do not sell your personal data to third parties. We do not share your data for advertising purposes.
5. Your Rights
Under GDPR and applicable privacy law, you have the following rights:
- Right of Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Right to Rectification: Correct inaccurate or incomplete data (most fields editable directly in your profile settings).
- Right to Erasure ("Right to Be Forgotten"): Request deletion of your account and all associated personal data.
- Right to Data Portability: Receive your data in a machine-readable format (JSON/CSV).
- Right to Restrict Processing: Ask us to limit how we use your data while a complaint is being resolved.
- Right to Object: Object to processing based on legitimate interests, including profiling for matching.
- Right to Withdraw Consent: Where processing is based on consent (e.g., photo verification), withdraw at any time without affecting prior processing.

6. Cookies
We use the following cookies:
- Authentication token (session storage): Keeps you logged in. Essential for the service to function.
- Analytics visitor ID (localStorage): A random identifier for counting unique visitors. Contains no personal data. You can clear this via your browser settings.
- Preference storage (localStorage): Remembers your UI preferences (e.g., filter settings).
We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. We do not use third-party analytics cookies (Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, etc.).
7. Data Retention
- Active accounts: Data retained while your account is active.
- Deleted accounts: Profile data deleted within 30 days of account deletion request. Messages are anonymised or deleted within 90 days.
- Verification selfies: Deleted immediately after verification is processed.
- Payment records: Retained for 7 years as required by financial regulations.
- Security logs: IP addresses and login records retained for up to 12 months for fraud prevention.
8. Data Security
We protect your data using industry-standard measures:
- All data in transit encrypted via TLS/HTTPS
- Passwords hashed with bcrypt (never stored in plain text)
- JWT authentication tokens with secure expiration
- Database access restricted to application services only
- Regular security reviews and access auditing
Despite our best efforts, no online service is 100% secure. Please use a strong, unique password and enable account protections where available.
9. Children's Privacy
New Chapter is strictly for adults aged 18 and over (our primary audience is 40+). We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has registered, please contact us immediately at support@newchapter.love.
10. International Data Transfers
New Chapter's infrastructure is hosted in the United States and European Union. If you are located outside these regions, your data may be transferred internationally. We ensure appropriate safeguards (Standard Contractual Clauses where required) are in place for all transfers.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via email or an in-app notice at least 14 days before they take effect. The "last updated" date at the top of this page always reflects the most recent revision.
